Dr Anthony Spriggins

After graduating from the Australian Orthopaedic Association Training Program, Dr Anthony Spriggins furthered his Orthopaedic education in Canada and the United Kingdom. He went on to further his expertise in Japan, Europe and USA, and in 1997 became a Member of sportsmed where he is a senior consultant and a Specialist Hip and Knee Surgeon.

He has performed over 30,000 surgical procedures with special expertise in hip and knee joint replacement, and revision hip and knee replacements. This includes bone, cartilage and allograft use in hip and knee reconstruction, hip and knee arthroscopy, and reconstruction of knee injuries in athletes. 

He is a member of the Australian Knee Society, the Arthroplasty Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the British Orthopaedic Association, and is one of a few Australian members of the International Hip Society.

Tony has been a member of design teams for joint replacement implants, Computer Navigation Systems, and optimisation of implant positioning in joint replacement surgery.

While he is based at sportsmed in Stepney, he also practises at the Western Hospital in Henley Beach, the Ontario Medical Clinic in Mildura and The Village Medical Centre in Mount Gambier.

Tony isn’t just a surgeon though, he’s also an athlete in his own right who understands the needs of both professional and recreational athletes. As a former Australian Rowing Champion and a former member of the Australian Duathlon Team, he has a particular affinity with active and sports people. He still competes in road cycling, rowing and sailing events, and socially enjoys alpine trekking, fishing and snow skiing.
